Different readout options are being considered for detection including fluorescence signals, colorimetric assays, electrochemical sensors, and lateral flow assays.

The device must be portable, compact and have the option of being battery-powered so it can be used in the field or in remote locations where laboratory testing is not available.

The device may also be equipped with a wireless connection for data transfer, allowing for remote monitoring of the assay results and integration with other diagnostic systems. It can also have the capability to report disease infection rate to CDC.
